Paleokastritsa - Paradise on Earth

December 2025  |  6 min read

If there's one place in Corfu that captures the imagination of every visitor, it's Paleokastritsa. This breathtaking area on the northwest coast features a series of turquoise bays, dramatic cliffs, and an ancient monastery perched on a promontory.

The Legendary Bays

Paleokastritsa is actually a collection of six small bays, each with its own character. The main beach offers a cosmopolitan atmosphere with sunbeds, restaurants, and boat rentals. But the real magic lies in exploring the surrounding capes and hidden coves.

Boat Tours - A Must-Do Experience

Rent a small boat or join a tour to discover:

  • Paradise Beach (Chomes) - Accessible only by boat, crystal-clear waters
  • Sea Caves - Explore mysterious blue-lit grottoes
  • Snorkeling Spots - Underwater rock formations teeming with life
  • Rovinia Beach - Secluded paradise further south

The Monastery of Paleokastritsa

At the end of the cape stands the 13th-century Monastery of the Virgin Mary. The monastery houses a small fraternity of monks who maintain the buildings and lush gardens. Almost every surface is covered with bougainvillea and geraniums.

Note: Visitors must dress modestly - women should cover shoulders and legs. The monks also produce and sell their own olive oil from the monastery's groves.

La Grotta Bar

For an unforgettable evening experience, visit La Grotta, a bar built into a little cove near Paleokastritsa. Watch the illuminated bay below while sipping cocktails as the sun sets over the Ionian Sea.
